The Mars Volta - “Octahedron”
Found this at local record store, Going Underground Records. Back in 2009 when I first got this album, I remember waiting through the intro of the first track, "Since we’ve been wrong" for what seemed like an eternity before the first notes begin to resonate and slowly bloom into a Frances-esque acoustic ballad. With the new drummer Thomas Pridgen displaying unique rhythms along with the buzzing guitar performed by Omar Rodriguez Lopez coming in on the track “Teflon” speaking about what I interpret as the dark side of politics— Cedric Bixler-Zavala’s vocals seem a lot more tame in this album compared to their previous, A Bedlam in Goliath. My favorite track has got to be “Cotopaxi” for it’s in-your-face-off-pace instrumentation.
